The Future of Benin is proud to announce its annual trip to South Africa next August 2017. The organization invites friends and supporters to travel to Contonou, in Benin, West Africa for a two week long humanitarian excursion; an inaugural event which encourages community engagement and enrichment in the organization’s program abroad. The goal for this trip is to promote the organization’s call to action as well as foster sustainability for the orphanage through large-scale participation.
The Future of Benin is a nonprofit organization developed to provide improved living conditions for at risk orphans located in Benin, West Africa. Founded in 2007 by Rev. Doris Green, The Future of Benin now includes a functioning orphanage complete with a school house, safe living quarters and farm.
Contonou is the largest city in the country of Benin and is located on the coastal strip between Lake Nokoué and the Atlantic Ocean. Although it is considered the economic capital of Benin, it also contains a large number of orphaned and homeless children. After a successful first annual fundraiser (funds raised est. $1000 to go towards the development of the Contonou school house) for the Future of Benin’s education fund, this trip will expand on its efforts with a program that will include discovery, cultural exploration and relationship building.
“This trip is very important because it takes a village to change lives. We’re going to be able to offer support in Benin in a much bigger way than ever before because this will be a group trip, that’s powerful. The children see the support through the donations they receive, but now they’ll be able play football with the people who are emotionally invested in their futures…and hopefully, the supporters who make the trip will be more aware of what their impact means”, said Rev. Green.
